More than 1,000 Supporters Join Suozzi and Reyna at NYC Campaign Rally and Petition Kickoff

Congressman Tom Suozzi, common sense Democratic candidate for Governor of New York, last night held a campaign rally that drew more than 1,000 supporters from across the state. Speaking before an over-the-top enthusiastic crowd, Suozzi was joined by his running mate and candidate for Lieutenant Governor, Diana Reyna, as well as Hon. Fernando Ferrer, the chairman of the Suozzi-Reyna campaign, who served as the Master of Ceremonies.

“The enthusiasm and excitement from so many supporters at our rally gives me so much confidence in our campaign,” said Suozzi. “I am so motivated by not only the number of supporters who came out, but also how diverse they were. They looked like New York! ”

Reyna said: “The diversity of the crowd last night sends a clear message that people are tired of politics as usual and ready for new leadership that isn’t afraid to tackle the tough issues and get things done. It’s not just about ideology – people are concerned about quality of life issues, they’re tired of the pandering, and they want our state leaders to finally spend time on the things that matter to them. That’s why Tom and I are running so that every person who believes that we can do better together has the chance to actually do it.”

Ferrer remarked: “Last night’s powerful and overwhelming show of support drives home the message that there are no candidates better qualified and suited to tackle the crime crisis, fix our troubled schools, grow jobs, and improve the lives of all New Yorkers than Tom Suozzi and Diana Reyna. This campaign is growing momentum by the day, and I look forward to continuing to take our message to every corner and every community across the state.”

The gala kicked off the first day of the petitioning process, in which the Suozzi campaign will collect the necessary 15,000 signatures from Democratic voters from across New York State to qualify for ballot status. Campaign staffers were on hand to explain the process, collect signatures, and hand out petitioning packets to volunteers to gather signatures in their neighborhoods and communities.

Tuesday night’s packed house event was held at the Sheraton New York Times Square, in the very same hotel ballroom that 11 days ago, Governor Kathy Hochul and her State Party Chairman held their convention, which was criticized for excluding Latinos from their program. The Suozzi/Reyna campaign paints a stark contrast with Hochul’s program that was lambasted by Latinos.

“Last night demonstrated that Diana and I will never mute the voices of any New Yorker who wants to work with us to combat crime, lower taxes, address high utility rates, and better our schools,” expressed Suozzi. “Power to the People!”
